Fund for Birthing Black Bodies

Yoga by donation classes this week will be benefiting Davinah Simmons’s Fund for Black Birthing Bodies. Davinah is a birthworker local to me in the Puget Sound area. Donations to the fund will enable Davinah to give low cost birth, bereavement, lactation, and postpartum services to Black birthers.

Statistics show that having the support of a doula or birthworker significantly reduces the risk of complications or death due to birth. Black birthers are 4 times more likely to die from childbirth than white birthers because of the systemic racism that exists in our patriarchal, capitalistic medical industry. We need more Black Doulas and Midwives to advocate for Black birthers. AND we need to support them by paying them to offer free and low cost services to Black birthers.

Davinah has taken countless trainings to hold space for BIPOC, LBGTQ+, single parents, birthing people over 40, pregnancy loss, infertility, survivors of abuse/assault/incest, and much more. She champions for inclusivity, advocacy, and nourishing a supportive relationship with her clients.
